Trifling Game Stats

AD&D 2nd Ed.

  • +2 Dex
  • -2 Con
  • Due to their small size, Triflings cannot have a strength score greater than a 9.
  • The wings of a Trifling do not grow back. If plucked off or destroyed (i.e. fire, acid, etc.), the Trifling is doomed to walk unless magically aided. Snakes or other critters kill most Triflings who lose their wings
  • Triflings have low-light vision. As long as there is some sort of natural ambient light, a Trifling can see as if it was mid day. A Trifling is blind in total darkness unless a light source is provided. Magical light does not count as natural ambient light while a flame (candle, torch), starlight, moonlight, and phosphorescence does.
  • Triflings can be any class. Due to there nature, however, they can only be a single class. A Trifling cannot be multi-classed.
  • Equipment for Triflings weighs 1/6 of that listed. The cost however can be anywhere from 10 to 100 times the listed price. Because of their nature, Trifling craftsmen are rare. To make equipment, weapons and armor Trifling size (remember armor needs to be tailored to allow for a Trifling's wings), one usually needs to find an exceptional craftsman. All Trifling equipment functions as normal except for range and damage. All range given on weapons are in feet and all damage is ½ that listed - minimum of 1.
  • Triflings start the game knowing their own language and that common to the area.
  • The Trifling language requires 3 slots (modern languages) to learn versus the normal one slot.

d20 System

  • +2 Dexterity
  • -2 Strength
  • Maximum Strength score of 9 due to their size.
  • Size: Tiny - Gives a +2 to AC
  • Base Speed: 15', Fly 60' (good)
  • Low-light vision: Triflings can see twice as far as human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. They retain the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
  • +2 racial bonus to Reflex Rolls while in the air due to their small size and agility. This bonus is reduced to +1 if the Trifling is on the ground.
  • +2 racial bonus to Listen checks: Triflings have keen ears.
  • Automatic Languages: Northern Trade and Trifling. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Keld
  • Favored Class: None (every class counts against them when computing experience penalty)
  • Triflings may only use Tiny or Small weapons. Small weapons require two hands.
  • Armor effects a Trifling the same as any character (i.e.leatherwould give a +2 AC bonus). It just costs 50-100 times more than the list price (to tailor it).
