World of Ki'larn
Sibru InferiSibru Inferi's location is known but to a few. Some say that it is located near Hook Bay, while others put it underground, near the Twin Vales, or near the dwarven homeland. It is rumored to be located on a different plane, or a city under a powerful illusion.Sibru Inferi was once a normal city, until a lich came to live there. One of the inhabitants was a powerful mage. He was in love with the daughter of one of the city officials. Her father did not want them together and forbade her from ever seeing the mage again. They continued to see each other with secret rendezvous, but these became further and further in between. The mage tried to convince his love that she would be safe with him, but her father was an ever-present menace, and she stayed with him, and was afraid to break his rules. The mage became extremely bitter, and started learning dark spells that would help him to live longer, and become ever more powerful. His anger tore at him, and he became more insane and more angry, until the day he died. He had set up a chain of spells to take place when this happened that would keep him on this plane of existence. He became a lich. His love for his maiden grew and grew, even though he could not be with her. It was soon the only thing that occupied his thoughts. He was now a lich, and could easily crush her father. He did not want it to come to this, but he could no longer see any way to make her his own. One day, he decided to enact his revenge on her father, and killed him, in front of her. He then declared that she was his, and whisked her away to his tower. She was distraught with the death of her father, and could not believe that the man she had once loved could do such a thing. She did not know him any longer, and no longer loved him. She couldn't. He was no longer the same man she had fallen in love with. His heart had turned so black, and his thoughts were evil. The lich kept her in his tower, and tried to keep her happy. He knew that she was afraid of him now, but he desperately wanted to change that. He tried everything. He brought her flowers, and sang to her, but his voice wasn't what it used to be, and the flowers only made her shudder. One morning when he came to her room, he found her dead. She had broken the vase and slit her own wrists. It was the only way she could find out of the hell she was in. He tried to re-animate her, and make her love him. His attempts failed miserably. When she was reanimated, she was merely a mindless zombie. She was no longer capable of love, or passion, only blind obedience. This drove him over the edge that he had so long been teetering on. He became more and more insane, and desperate. He had gone so long without companionship that he yearned for it. He researched re-animation spells, and tried them on street urchins that had passed in the night. Then he intensified his research, and soon there weren't enough urchins passing away for him to try his spells on. He soon began killing his 'test subjects', only to reanimate them. Soon, there weren't many living creatures left for his experiments. He had nearly wiped out the town. Then other creatures of the night, and undead started coming to his town. He finally found some creatures that weren't mindless, and he welcomed them. Thus the town became populated with undead, and other creatures of the night. It is rumored that one day the city merely vanished. This is when it took on the name Sibru Inferi. There are many different interpretations of the meaning of the name Sibru Inferi. Some say it means City of unliving creatures, while others say City of Darkness, or Vanished City. Whatever the definition, it still remains a dark and terrible place. |
