The Tale of Innas
In days of yore, before the terrible coming of the Stone King and the
purge of Thikis, Noble Chall and his good-lady Amiph were debating as
to which of the three sexes were most-gifted. The conversation was so
heated that tempers flared, and a wager was made. A representative from
each sex was chosen for a competition that would determine which was the
greatest. The games at hand would challenge each contestant to the maximum
of all of their abilities. So they summoned their champions to them: Strong Porgeus, the Speedy
N'Tal, and Clever Innas. Each was the pinnacle representative of their
sex. Before them they laid forth several challenges: the Contest of Strength;
the Contest of Speed; and the Contest of Wits. Each competitor was determined to win the events for the pride of their
sex. In the Contest of Strength a mighty boulder had to be moved from
one end of a field to the other. Strong Porgeus lifted a boulder over
his head and handily carried it aloft and placed it down in the designated
spot. The Speedy N'Tal tried and tried, but was unable to get the stone
to budge. N'Tal pulled and prodded, pushed and heaved but it would not
move. Clever Innas carefully watched her opponents. She searched about
when it was her time to move the rock, and she found a stout stick. She
used the rod as a lever, and slowly wedged it under the girth of the stone.
Ever so slowly did Slight Innas move the rock, end over apex, until after
much work, she had moved her stone to the far end of the field. The next contest began: the Contest of Speed. A marathon had to be run.
Porgeus shot off the starting line like an arrow unfurled from a bow,
but quickly his strength left him, and he stopped; spent and unable to
finish. He was quickly overtaken by swift N'Tal who sped along towards
the finish line. Clever Innas was not the fleetest of foot, nor did she
have the greatest endurance, but she marshaled herself and conserved her
strength and ultimately finished the race, something her male counterpart
did not do. Porgeus stood and stared, his face screwed up showing his thinking. He thought and he thought, but was unable to find an answer to Fair Amiph's riddle. N'Tal tried next, first blurting out "Gold!" and was much sadden by Ampih's frown of disapproval. Lastly, slight Innas strode up to give her answer: "You are Thraiserhil, the Sun, that burns above us all. You shed light unto the dark so that we can explore all of Jogk's mysteries and you keep men warm with your brilliance." Chall looked over at his good-lady, and knew instantly that the beautiful
girl had answered true. The contest was awarded to Innas, most fair, for
she succeeded at all of her goals, perhaps not being the strongest or
fastest, but definitely being the most wise and thoughtful of the lot.
Innas was crowned with laurel wreaths to show to all beings that she had
completed the trials of the gods. As reward, and to show the world and
all the people and gods Innas' victory, she was award an island to lord
over and govern as she saw fit. From that day forth, the misty isle became
known as Innas. Innas was a fair and just leader of her people; she taught her followers well, and the fairer sex always dominated that land. To this very day, if one listens hard enough, the wisdom of Innas can be heard whispering in the winds that gently caress her kingdom's shores. Respectfully submitted, |
